About the role
Penrith City Council is seeking a skilled Senior Waste and Resource Recovery Officer to join our Waste & Resource Recovery Department for a temporary appointment up to August 2025. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of innovative waste management strategies, ensuring sustainable and efficient resource recovery practices. You will play a pivotal role in coordinating resource recovery education and communications, working closely with Resource Recovery Education Officers to develop engaging programs and materials.
As a Senior Waste and Resource Recovery Officer, you will be responsible for handling complex enquiries and complaints, working collaboratively with the Resource Recovery Manager to maintain service continuity and effective communication. During peak times, you will also be expected to undertake the tasks and duties of the Manager.
Your responsibilities will also include recording and analysing data across domestic and non-domestic waste streams, maintaining internal processes and systems for accurate data collection and reporting, and developing programs, policies, and procedures to achieve the objectives of relevant legislation and the Council's Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy.

Essential criteria
- Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science or related discipline
- Extensive experience in the Waste Education, Communications and Project Management
- A strong understanding and demonstrated experience in data management and presentation
- Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution, negotiation and problem-solving skills
- Current Class C driver’s licence
Commencing salary: $103,939.00 per annum, plus 11.5% Superannuation.
Access to a Leaseback Vehicle is available with this position; however, it is not a condition of employment.
