Council is looking for a Work Health and Safety Business Partner to join our Work Health and Safety (WHS) Team. As a member of the People and Culture Department, the WHS team is tasked with implementing Council’s WHS Management System, strategy and culture, including leading and working on exciting WHS related projects.
About the Role
Our Work Health and Safety Business Partners play a key role as subject matter experts for the business units they support, providing accurate and timely technical advice and assisting their business units with strategic WHS initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for finding real solutions that make sense, that matter, and make a difference to the safety and wellbeing of Council staff.
We are looking for someone who can partner with the business, implement change, and embed best practice, with a heavy focus on construction and contractor management. Our ideal candidate will have the ability to critically think through complex situations, deliver innovative solutions, and drive engagement and compliance with Council’s WHS legislative obligations and Council’s Work Health and Safety Management System (WHSMS).
Key accountabilities and responsibilities of this role:
- Process improvement of WHS practices across construction works and projects
- Site observations and WHS technical advice to internal stakeholders as per Council’s audit and observation processes
- Managing Contractor Management compliance including identifying non-conformances and recommendations related to corrective actions
- Incident reporting and investigation
- Training development and implementation of preventative programs
- Project tender reviews to ensure WHS compliance
You will be managing standalone projects in addition to business-as-usual activities and will be required to develop strong internal relationships and be independent in managing your areas of responsibility. The role is a full time (35 hour per week) position based in our Civic Centre in Penrith.
Essential Criteria:
- Tertiary qualification in Work Health and Safety or relevant field or near completion
- Work experience in construction or compliance safety related roles
- Demonstrated understanding of WHS Legislation
- Current Class C Driver’s Licence
Desirable Criteria
- Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment
- Experience in Injury Management and RTW Accreditation
Commencing Salary: $103,939.00, p.a, plus 11.5% superannuation. Further salary progression is also available under Council’s Salary Administration System.
Access to a Motor Vehicle Allowance is available with this position; however, it is not a condition of employment.
